THE GOSPEL TRUMPET SOUNDS TODAY
1.
The Gospel trumpet sounds today,
In tones of solemn warning,
O’er every land the message rings-
That tells of Christ’s returning;
It bids the fainting heart be strong,
And shout in exhultation,
All hail the joyful day that ends-
Our night of tribulation.
2.
Creation groans and longs to see-
The dawn of full salvation;
And angels scan redemption’s plan-
With eager expectation:
Not long shall wait the sleeping saints,
Nor we who watch believing;
We’ll soon ascend the radiant skies,
Our glorious King receiving.
3.
With seven-fold power the Spirit fills-
The Advent proclamation,
That publishes the King’s return-
To every tribe and nation;
This “blessèd hope” our zeal inspires;
Our hearts with love are burning;
We cry, Lord Jesus quickly come,
For Thee we are yearning.
